Our bad experience started from Apollo Hospitals, Dhaka in March 2006 but that is so trivial compared to what they have done later in 2010.
In June 2010 my mother started falling weak at home. And on June 17 evening we took her to Apollo hospitals emergency because she had sense but was not being able to respond or move much. We took her to Apollo, emergency at around 7pm.
They said the ecg looks OK, to check if its a brain stroke they want to do MRI as their CT scan machine is not working. (The most expensive hospital in Dhaka can say so!). They also took blood to test her minerals.
They found that her sodium level was 96 and thats what it was! Very low sodium. They called the head of medicines on mobile to ask for the course of action. Whatever he instructed they know. Then the emergency doctors told us that my mom is not an ICU patient but they have to take her to ICU as there is no regular bed available. Ok, we need those damn minerals to reach our mom's body. So, we were just waiting. They took her to Neuro ICU.
We were waiting outside the Neuro ICU for update. I was 7 months pregnant with worst complications. She took care of me the first 5 months when I was on complete bed rest. My heart was breaking. But I could not leave her. At around 12am they told us that she is under Medical department so they are moving her to the Medical ICU as she fits there. Ok, what can we do or what we care. We want her to be treated.
The following day we were informed in the morning that her sodium level was 110 in the morning. Ok, it was increasing. Then in the evening when we went to see her I saw her having not recognizing us much. We felt something was wrong. We left the ICU and was waiting outside the ICU in the posh ICu attendants room. There one of our distant relatives who also work in the medicine department as a doctor told us that my mom's sodium is 135 in the evening BUT they consider the result is wrong, they believe the morning's 110 is the correct result! (Seriously, you think your hospital's results are wrong??? why?).
After we left the ICU the duty doctor called us in and told us that she thinks my mom's response level is deteriorating and as thats a new ICU (opened right the previous day) they are scared that they can not handle, so they are moving her back to Neuro ICU where senior doctors are always available. Mark my words these were exactly told to us! And that first 24 hours did the damage. My mom's sodium level increased to 135 in 24 hours and that meant her brain's pons region got damaged. We saw her deteriorating in the following days when the Medicine head Dr. Aziz never agreed to us that that has happened to her!! HE NEVER ADMITTED! My mom was in locked-in syndrome for almost 15-20 more days. Then I sent her with the help of a minister's money to Thailand as a stretcher patient. And she got another life. And thats another story.
My point is AN ICU IS AN ICU!! What the hell they mean by new ICU? Then why did you take her to that damn department!
My mom's pons region got 80% damaged resulting full body paralysis (now she can walk, but speech is weak, arms are weak). They made my ever-active mom a forever physically disable patient!
Finally Apollo killed my dad who himself is a doctor, who served the government for 30+ years and then died because of again the negligence of Apollo's emergency. I will share it later.
